georgia by andrea knecht

born in 1974 in the orne département of northwestern France, cécile rogue was awarded the diplôme national supérieur d’etudes plastiques by the école des beaux-arts de caen in 2000. while still completing her studies, cécile got her start in design working as jean-marie périer’s assistant. between 2001 and 2005, she worked alongside the portrait photographer marianne rosenstiehl and the children’s fashion photographer olivier ribardière before beginning to work under her own name as a photographer and illustrator in 2006. she has since produced many fashion photographs and portraits of up-and-coming french film actresses. her aesthetic approach, drawing inspiration both from childhood and women’s fashion, combines a range of techniques (photography, collage, illustration, photomontage) to create an enchanting universe imbued with glamour but also wonderfully ominous, peopled with crazed puppets and bathed in the eerie light of an imminent storm. she breathes life into this universe through short films making use of both stop motion and motion design: “les soeurs ou la méthode” (2009) was screened for a month in the window of the artazart bookstore and gallery in paris and a “grain of circus” (2010), produced for the french women’s ready-to-wear label lilith, was shown in the windows of the brand’s boutiques in paris and new york. cécile rogue has collaborated with exquise design to produce a series of photos presenting georgia, andrea knecht’s creation for the lovetoy collection shown in the exhibition love design.
